Hospice offers grief counseling for those in the last phases of a life-limiting illness. In addition, the bereavement coordinator assists family members for up to 13 months following a patient's death.
Grief counseling is also available to residents in our area without someone currently enrolled in Hospice, but needing our special services. We offer counseling for both adults and children.
In its 17th year, "Camp Courage" is Hospice of Western Kentucky's annual bereavement youth camp. The free one-day program focuses on helping children ages 6-13 who have experienced the death of a relative or friend. Since 2011, Hospice has partnered with The Bridges Program to stage the camp. Held at the Bittel Equestrian Center on Hwy. 60 west of Owensboro, the children have the opportunity to interact with The Bridges Program's therapy horses, as well as participate in crafts, group and one-on-one discussions, and other grief support activities. The camp, which is supported each year through a grant from the Owensboro Rotary Foundation, Inc., helps the children commemorate and remember loved ones, and to better understand the feelings associated with loss and grief.
