Hospice of Western Kentucky's trained Spiritual Counselors offer grief support for patients and families facing a life-limiting illness. In addition, our Bereavement Coordinator continues to work with family members if needed for up to 13 months, free of charge, following the death of a loved one. Free grief counseling is also available to residents in our area without someone currently enrolled in Hospice, but needing our special services. Counselingis offered for both adults and children.
2017 was the 21st year Hospice of Western Kentucky sponsored its annual bereavement youth camp, "Camp Courage." The free, one-day program focuses on helping children ages 6-13 who have experienced the death of a relative or friend.
Partnering with the Dream Riders of Kentucky program, children have the opportunity to interact with therapy horses at the Dream Riders' facility in Philpot near Owensboro, as well as participate in crafts, group and one-on-one discussions, and other grief support activities. The camp, which is supported through grants from The Owensboro Rotary Foundation, Inc., helps the children commemorate and remember loved ones, and to better understand the feelings associated with loss and grief.
