Wish Program

Recognizing that many of our patients may have end-of-life wishes or desires they would like to fulfill, Hospice of Western Kentucky created its WISH Program in 2008 to help those wishes come true when possible. Only one wish can be granted per patient, and the patient must demonstrate a financial need. All wishes must also be consistent with the mission and philosophy of Hospice.

The programs that we work with are The Dream Foundation and the Hospice Education Institute.

Special Needs Fund

Hospice of Western Kentucky has also created a benevolent fund for patients and their families to help with special needs that may occur while coping with a serious illness.

Patients facing a life-limiting illness and their families are already in a vulnerable position; it only complicates the situation when there are financial worries that must be dealt with as well. The goal of our Special Needs Fund is to provide a one-time benevolent request for patients who demonstrate financial need.

Such financial requests may include, but are not limited to, paying a utility or fuel bill, or buying groceries or clothing.

For example, the fund has paid household bills for patients, bought food for families, and it was used to repair the brakes on a patient's car, her only source of transportation. It also made visits to the dentist possible for two patients who needed unexpected dental work to relieve pain.

We recognize that some patients and their families may incur needs for the simple necessities of life while they are with Hospice, and it is our desire to help them whenever we can.
